Location: Spencer Glacier 50 miles south of Anchorage near Portage and 10 miles south of Girdwood in the Chugach National Forest at 175′ elevation. Seward Highway meeting location is typically our basecamp at the ‘Welcome to Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula’ sign.
Winter Season: January 2024– April 2025. Spencer and Skookum Glaciers in Placer Valley open to snowmobiling when the Chugach National Forest deems there is enough snow and ice. We are currently taking Spencer Glacier reservations from February 1st to April 10th 2025 depending riding conditions. Spencer, Skookum and Placer River Valley are a relatively low elevation coastal area prone to changing weather conditions. Alternative early season Nov 20th to January options are typically our Turnagain Pass Alaska Snowmobile Tour and Turnagain Arm ATV tour.
Snowmobile rentals are available with guided support, custom multi-day tours and expeditions with over 15 years of Alaska backcountry guiding experience.

Snowmobile to the face of Spencer, Skookum or Twentymile glaciers controlling your own sled at Alaska’s #1 winter past time. Snowmachines, as Alaskans call them, offer nearly unlimited access to traverse snowy meadows, cross frozen rivers and pass towering mountains on the ride to a remote blue ice destination.
Backcountry powder snowmobiles make the difference when freeriding in meadows to hone your skills. Most sleds have heavy duty gas shocks, plastic skid plates and deep lug tracks so little bumps are not a problem.
Experienced guides lead the way on a loop ride of the glacier valleys not just an out-n-back trip. Snowmobiling requires balance in sloping terrain, eye-hand coordination and a strong sense of adventure to help you navigate the snowy terrain.
Icebergs frozen in the lake are scenic obstacles heading to the blue serac blocks and columns of ice thrusting from the glaciers face. Take plenty of photos as we explore the glacier and enjoy a trailside hot drink and snack.
Bring warm layers and ski jackets/pants to supplement our bib and jacket outerwear system. Gloves with decent articulation work best with the handlebar warmers. Arctic boots, helmets, gloves, balaclavas, jackets and bibs available to supplement your warm layers, please provide sizing. Remember to bring small cameras, camera cases, sunglasses and personal items.
Exhilarating snowmobiling to glaciers are a highlight of Alaska!
