Winter is a great time to ride snowmachines in wild Alaska! Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers below
Yes, guides do there best to instruct and lead you along backcountry trails.
Much of the snowmobiling is up to you, eye hand coordination, balance and physical ability are important.

ASTAR provides you extra gear, safety equipment, snowmobile, gas and oil. Your guide leads the group expecting that you follow the guides safety instructions and direction. Often we groom the trail in front of the tour so you have an easy trail to follow.

Yes, experience is the difference! Not just a tour company like the others, we are backcountry guides in our element. We try to offer a powder freeride area for you to ride at your own pace on every tour.
Dress in layers just like everyone in Alaska says. This means being able to add layers over the last layer starting with long underwear or tights, fleece pants, sweaters, puffy layers and ending with water resistant outerwear. Wear multiple layers of socks with warm wool outer socks, bring hats and gloves. Mittens are sometimes tricky to work the machines with.

Often our clients have good winter ski/riding gear that fits them, please bring what you have however provide sizing while booking too. ASTAR will supplement you with extra riding gear, almost everyone wears our boots while many our bibs and jackets sometimes over everything for colder trips. The gear system allows mixing and matching. ASTAR provides helmets, goggles and balaclavas (face mask), if you have googles or face mask please bring them.

Glasses wearers, they can be extremely difficult to keep frost free. Consider wearing contacts, bringing a cloth or goggles that work with your glasses.

Your comfort and safety is our concern, please plan ahead for your Alaskan adventure.

Have questions about what to wear? text us at 907 783-3600
